Gary Payton II has quickly become one of my favorite defenders to watch in the NBA. He brought my attention to several defensive techniques I wanted to study more of, including; the Goal Keeper Rotation, Stride Stop Closeout and the Recovery Steal.
His NBA journey is also unbelievable and speaks to his passion, hard work and the chip on his shoulder he has built. It is hard to believe that he tried to become a Video Coordinator with the Warriors at one point. Luckily, that didn’t happen and we got to enjoy some fantastic defense throughout the Warriors’ Championship run.
